Fan favorite writer/director Joss Whedon is in in talks with Warner Brothers to perform those duties on a Batgirl movie for the studio.
Variety is reporting that the Buffy the Vampire Slayer mastermind will be crafting the film to be part of the studio’s DC Comics Expanded Universe group of films although it seems as if it will stand alone from the overall storylines weaving through the franchise.
Whedon may seem like an obvious choice for. Batgirl film, but that’s because he is a great choice for a Batgirl film. With Buffy, he established his cred for writing strong female heroes and with a pair of Avengers films under his belt, he has proven he knows his way around bringing comic book superheroes to the big screen.
For their part, Warners is showing that they are really active in pursuing some big name talents for their DC Comics films. Recently it was reported that the studio had been talking with Mel Gibson about taking on directorial duties for Suicide Squad 2 while just this past week star writer Aaron Sorkin revealed that he would be meeting with the studio (as well as with rival Marvel Studios) about possibly working with them on a project.
Whedon previously worked with Warners on a possible Wonder Woman film that ultimately died in development.
