If you were wondering if the long-in-the-works Venom stand alone film was still on at Sony/Columbia, it is, and a battle between it and Aquaman was nearly avoided.
The Hollywood Reporter states that the Venom film will be released on October 5, 2018. No star or director as of yet, or word if Marvel Studios will be involved in this one like they were with Spider-Man: Homecoming. Screenwriters Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner, the latter of whom worked on 2014’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2, recently turned in a draft, replacing an earlier one submitted by Dante Harper.
That date was recently announced by the studio for their The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo sequel, The Girl In The Spider’s Web. That film has been moved and is now scheduled to arrive in theaters two weeks later, on October 19, 2018.
Venom was scheduled to go toe-to-toe with Warner Brothers’ Aquaman, which was once set to also be released on October 5th as well. However, in a stroke of extraordinary luck, Warners moved the release date of that film back to December 18, 2018.
The studio is hoping for another franchise from the film, which might be expecting a bit too much.
