New GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY 2 Trailer Reveals Kurt Russell As Ego, The Living Planet

It was no surprise that Chris Pratt stopped by The Jimmy Kimmel Show last night to premier a new trailer for the upcoming Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 2. The film’s studio, Marvel, and Kimmel’s network, ABC, share a singular corporate parent, Disney. What was a surprise was that the trailer reveals franchise newcomer Kurt Russell in his role as Ego, the Living Planet. Now, those familiar with the comics character will tell you that this is not quite how he looks on the page, but I think we may just be seeing one form that the character takes.

The trailer also plays up the idea of the Guardians as a family. It was a theme of the first film and it is nice to see that it will be continued to be explored in the new movie.

Here’s the studio’s synopsis –

Set to the backdrop of ‘Awesome Mixtape #2,’ Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.

The film also stars Karen Gillan, Michael Rooker, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Elizabeth Debicki, Pom Klementieff, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Kurt Russell and Glenn Close.

Guardians Of The Galaxy, Vol 2 opens May 5th.
