Super Bowl Spot: GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL 2

Marvel Studios just aired their big (and no doubt expensive) Super Bowl commercial, and I have to admit that I am scratching my head a bit over it. Sure, I loved the original film and am looking forward to the sequel when it opens this coming May. So are a lot of other people, judging by the amount of tickets that were sold at the box office for the first film. So, why does the trailer introduce us to these characters like we have never seen them before? Ir’s a perplexing tactic to take. Surely, if you are going to highlight some new material from the film, you can do so in a way that showcases each of the characters individually without the swooping graphics for each person’s name. This feels like it is part of the first film’s marketing, not the sequels. Nevertheless, it is still pretty exciting and is amping up my excitement for the film.

Set to the backdrop of ‘Awesome Mixtape #2,’ Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 opens in theaters May 5.
