Sebastian Stan To Join Margot Robbie’s Tonya Harding Biopic

Sebastian Stan is joining the biopic I, Tonya, the story of infamous figuring skating Olympian Tonya Harding. Margot Robbie is set to star in the titular role.

Stan will be playing Jeff Gillooly, Harding’s wife, who hired a hitman to try and break the legs of one of Harding’s competitors for a spot on the US Olympic figure skating team, Nancy Kerrigan. Despite the attack, both skaters made the team, though Kerrigan performed much better than Harding did at the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway. She was later banned for life from the U.S. Figure Skating Association after pleading guilty to hindering the prosecution following the attack on Kerrigan. For his part, Gillooly testified against Harding at her trial but still did prison time for his role in the assault.

Steven Rogers wrote the screenplay for the film. No director has been attached to the project yet.

In addition to starring, Robbie is also producing the movie under her LuckyChap Entertainment production shingle at Warner Brothers.
