Emilia Clarke is journeying from Westeros to a galaxy far away.
The Game of Thrones actress has been cast in an unnamed role in Disney’s upcoming young Han Solo Star Wars spinoff film.
Alden Ehrenreich is set to star as a younger version of the interstellar smuggler made famous by Harrison Ford in the original Star Wars trilogy and the more recent Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Former Community cast member Donald Glover will be playing Lando Calrissian, the charming gambler first played by Billy Dee Williams in The Empire Strikes Back. The film is set some unspecified time before the smuggler has his fateful meeting with Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi in a dingy cantina on the backwater planet of Tatooine.
Previously, there was a rumored shortlist of actresses auditioning for the film which included Tessa Thompson, Zoe Kravitz, and Naomi Scott, however it is unclear if they were trying for a different role or the one that ultimately went to Clarke.
The film is being directed by The LEGO Movie’s Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, working from a script by Empire Strikes Back scripter Lawrence Kasdan and his son Jon.
The untitled film is set for a May 25th, 2018 release.
