Johnny Depp is adding another franchise to his resume. The star of Disney’s Pirates Of The Caribbean series and who will be appearing in Universal’s upcoming Monsters franchise will now be appearing in Warner Brothers’ Harry Potter prequel Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them.
The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Depp will be making a small, cameo appearance in the first film of the series hitting theaters on November 18 before his character takes on a larger role in the sequel which is scheduled for a November 16, 2018 release.
The exact nature of Depp’s character is being kept secret, leaving eagle-eyed audience members to try and find him in the story about magizoologist Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) who arrives in New York City of the 1920s with a suitcase full of magocal creatures which promptly escape.
The reveal of Depp’s addition to the cast is the latest recent reveal that the franchise is bigger than previously expected. Last month Harry Potter creator J. K. Rowling revealed that the series would comprise five films instead of the previously thought three.
There is no word as to how many films Depp has been signed for. Previously, in the Harry Potter films some actors of note were signed to appear in just one installment while others made multiple appearances. Conceivably, Depp’s involvement could go either way.
