Jennifer Lawrence is set to play Zelda Fitzgerald, with of noted Jazz Age author F Scott Fitzgerald, in a biopic that producer/director Ron Howard is developing.
The film is set to be based on Nancy Milford’s 1970 best-selling biography Zelda and will chart the life of the Jazz Age icon who often struggled to be her own creative person while in the shadow of her famous author husband. The two were well known for the path the carved through high society in the 1920s, leading her husband to bestow on her the title of “the first American flapper.” Of course, that path led to alcoholism for the both of them. The couple’s problems were further exacerbated by Zelda’s descent into mental illness.
Howard is currently only developing the project as a producer, but he reportedly has an eye on directing the project. Producing alongside Howard is Allison Shearmur, the former Lionsgate executive who oversaw the Hunger Games films which catapulted Lawrence’s career to stardom.
