We all knew that there was going to be sequels to the upcoming Harry Potter franchise prequel Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them. The film series is the goose that keeps laying golden eggs for Warner Brothers, so there was no doubt in anyone’s mind that this film was going to just be a one-off affair. And now we know exactly how many more films will be coming out over the next couple of years.

In a tweet from the official Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them film twitter account comes the announcement that there will be four more films to the prequel series.

The news was also broken at a live event for the film, where a select group of fans also saw a three minute featurette that showcased Harry Potter creator J K Rowling talking about the new film as well as showcasing some new footage. That was also tweeted out this afternoon.

The fact that the studio is committing a large amount of resources towards a five film franchise demonstrates how much faith they have in Rowling delivering something that fans will be interested in seeing over the next several years. It’s especially surprising given that the studio did not receive quite the box office reception that it hoped for with its last fantasy-based, prequel series of films, The Hobbit.

Here is Warner Brothers’ official synopsis for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

“Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” is an all-new adventure returning us to the wizarding world created by J.K. Rowling. Academy Award winner Eddie Redmayne stars in the central role of wizarding world magizoologist Newt Scamander, under the direction of David Yates, who helmed the last four “Harry Potter” blockbusters. The film opens in 1926 as Newt Scamander has just completed a global excursion to find and document an extraordinary array of magical creatures. Arriving in New York for a brief stopover, he might have come and gone without incident…were it not for a No-Maj (American for Muggle) named Jacob, a misplaced magical case, and the escape of some of Newt’s fantastic beasts, which could spell trouble for both the wizarding and No-Maj worlds.

Fantastic Beasts And Where to Find Them stars Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Alison Sudol, Dan Fogler, Colin Farrell, Ezra Miller, Samantha Morton, Carmen Ejogo and Ron Perlman. It opens in theaters on November 18th.
