The Sandra Bullock-led, all-female Ocean’s 11 spinoff, Ocean’s Ocho, has announced its cast today and much like the original 1960 film featuring Frank Sinatra and the early 2000s remake trilogy led by George Clooney, this new version has a pretty amazing lineup of talent.
Joining Bullock in the heist caper film will be Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter, Mindy Kaling and singers Rihanna and Awkwafina. For those counting along at home, that still leaves one spot on the team to fill. At one point it was rumored that Jennifer Lawrence was in talks to join the film, but it is not clear as to whether she still is and that last spot is for her.
We first heard that director Gary Ross was developing the spinoff film from the Clooney-led trilogy last October. Ross is co-writing the screenplay with Queen & Country screenwriter Olivia Milch. Production is currently being penciled in to start this October in New York City.
Previously, the Tracking Board gave us this plot synopsis –
Sources reveal that the story, which is expected to be a continuation of the mega-successful George Clooney-led trilogy, centers around Bullock’s character, who plays an ex-con and Danny Ocean’s sister. With a team of thieves, she sets out of steal a necklace from the Met Ball and frame a crooked gallery owner.
Needless to say, George Clooney is expected to make a cameo in the film.
Warner Brothers has not yet scheduled the film on their release calendar.
