Rachel Talalay Being Considered To Direct CAPTAIN MARVEL

Usually, rumors about potential directors come from shadowy anonymous sources. But not for Captain Marvel. Its rumor comes from another prominent female director.

A fan was talking with Punisher: War Zone director Lexi Alexander on Twitter and suggested that she would be a good choice to direct Captain Marvel. Alexander said she wasn’t up for it, but knew someone who is:

Ms. Alexander is right. Rachael Talalay has over 35 years experience in films. One of her first jobs was a as production assistant on John Waters’ 1981 film, Polyester and went on to produce Hairspray and Cry-Baby for him. She also acted as a producer on Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master, which in turn led to her directorial debut with Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare.

And if that is not enough geek cred, she also directed the big screen adaptation of Tank Girl. Recently, her directorial efforts found a home in television, where her work was featured on shows such as Doctor Who, Sherlock, The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow.

So, needless to say, Talalay has experience and is familiar with the genre. Critic might say that her films didn’t really set the box office on fire, but it has been 21 years since her last feature film, and all that time working in television certainly helped to hone her craft.

More on this as it develops.
