Kiersey Clemons has been confirmed as joining the cast of Warner Brothers upcoming The Flash superhero film.
The Dope actress was rumored just a few weeks ago to be the studio’s “top choice” for the film’s unnamed lead female role. Speculation at the time was that she was going to be playing Iris West, the girlfriend to Barry Allen, the alterego of the titular speeding superhero. Variety has now confirmed both the rumor and speculation today.
This shouldn’t come as much of a surprise as Dope director Rick Famuyiwa is helming this installment of the studio’s interconnected superhero franchise.
Ezra Miller has already been introduced as the Flash in last spring’s Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice. He will next be seen in next summer’s Justice League before his solo movie spins off.
Clemons was recently seen as one of Chloe Moretz’s sorority sisters in Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising and recently landed one of the leads in Sony’s upcoming remake of Flatliners.
Production on the film is expected to start later this year, a date the project was in danger of not meeting due to the departure of original director Seth Grahame-Smith over the ubiquitous “creative differences.” Grahame-Smith’s screenplay, based off an outline by Chris Miller and Phil Lord, will still serve as the template for the film.
Production on The Flash is set to begin sometime later this year for a March 16, 2018 release date.
