Remember when Marvel only cast up-and-comers or reclamation projects for their films, and that someone like Brie Larson would have been cast in one of their films long before they won an Oscar? My, how times have changed.
Variety is reporting that the actress is in negotiations to portray Carol Danvers, a.k.a. Captain Marvel for Marvel. The trade says that the casting decision is all but done, as Larson is Marvel’s first choice and she is leaning towards doing it.
This would mark the second comic book adaptation for Larson, having played Envy Adams in Scott Pilgrim vs the World.
Some of you might say that the casting is way early for a film that doesn’t open until March 8, 2019. The rest of you would say that she is bound to be making appearance in another Marvel film way before then. The question is where. Carol Danvers did work at the Daily Bugle in the comics, so maybe in Spider-Man: Homecoming? Her origin is tied in with Marvel’s space-faring heroes, so maybe Thor: Ragnarok or Guardians of the Galaxy 2? And her time in the U.S. Air Force might make an appearance in Black Panther or Ant-Man and Wasp a possibility. However, it is probably most likely she’ll make her debut in 2018’s Untitled Avengers Film, which would then lead into her solo film.
I think it is a great choice. While she may be a little young to be an Air Force captain, she is a great actress with a lot of buzz to her name. I’m sure she’d be great in the role.
