Disney may be focusing on doing everything they can to make sure that their first Star Wars spinoff film Rogue One is the best that it can be doesn’t mean that it hasn’t forgotten about the next Star Wars spinoff in the pipeline – the one that will focus on a young Han Solo.
Directors Chris Miller and Phil Lord have recently picked Alden Ehrenreich to step into the role that launched Harrison Ford’s career into the stratosphere. And now we know when he will be stepping in front of cameras to begin production on the film.
The project’s co-screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan was speaking at the Atlanta Jewish Film Festival two weeks ago and had this to say about the film –
You know, Chris Miller and Phil Lord are going to direct it… They’re great, funny and imaginative and we’ve had a great time together. My son [Jon] and I wrote the script and Chris and Phil are working on it and they’re about to move to London to start shooting in January. And it should be fun.
Given that the film is scheduled to be released on May 25, 2018, a January start date certainly seems right. I suppose awe might not hear much in terms of officially casting announcements until the fall, but you can bet that the rumor mill will be running all summer long.
