Well, they’ve done it. They’ve found a way to combine the trend for prequels with the trend for interconnected cinematic universes.
Deadline is reporting that Brenda Chapman. who won an Oscar for directing PIXAR’s Brave, has been hired to head up Come Away, a live action fantasy that will serve as a prequel to both Peter Pan and Alice In Wonderland. HEres’ how they describe the film –
Before Alice went to Wonderland, and before Peter became Pan, they were brother and sister. When their eldest brother dies in a tragic accident, they each seek to save their parents from their downward spirals of despair until finally they are forced to choose between home and imagination, setting the stage for their iconic journeys into Wonderland and Neverland.
I have to say that I do find this story idea interesting, if only to see how they connect the two characters and the journeys we know that they will be taking. Even though it won an Oscar, I thought that Brave was a mess of a film. But thst can be laid more at the feet of a troubled production process than on Chapman. We will be watching this project for future developments.
