Ridley Scott is trading in the forbidding, inhospitable terrain of Mars of the forbidding, inhospitable terrain of the Old West.
The The Martian director is attached to direct Twentieth Century Fox’s adaptation of the novel Wraiths Of The Broken Land. Scott will be joined by his Martian screenwriter Drew Goddard and producer Simon Kinberg.
According to the Hollywood Reporter –
The 2013 book was set in 1900 in Mexico, with two sisters kidnapped and forced into prostitution. [Their] two brothers and father set out to find them, bringing along their outlaw gang that includes a former slave, a bird brain-eating Indian girl, and a brutal gunman.
Given that the novel was written S. Craig Zahler, the writer/director of last years’ stunning Bone Tomahawk, we probably already have a good idea of what to expect from the story in terms of tone.
Currently, Scott is shooting the latest Alien film Covenant. He has talked about wanting to do more Alien prequels to bring the series right up to his 1979 film which launched the franchise. He has also been circling a big screen adaptation of the classic British television series The Prisoner for Universal.
Now the only question left is will fox try to enter this film into the “Musical or Comedy” category at the Golden Globes?
