Sharon Stone Signs Marvel Deal

Who is she playing? Place your bets!

Sharon Stone 2

When it comes to confidentiality agreements, Sharon Stone pushes the limits of how confidential they can be.

The actress spoke with James Cordon last week and dropped a bombshell:

I am going to do a Marvel movie. I’m just doing a wee part in a Marvel movie, upcoming, and I can’t tell, because you know, you have to sign confidentiality agreements. But I’m going to do a wee part in a Marvel movie now. That’s it.

The Internet has been all over this announcement, putting on their deerstalker caps, and trying to figure out what role has she been cast in.

The majority of the guessers key in on the fact that she said “wee” twice in a sentence and surmise that she will be in Ant-Man and Wasp and that she will be playing Janet Van Dyne.

Now, let’s talk this through. While there is a certain amount of excitement attached to this potential casting, as it would reunite Stone with her Basic Instinct co-star, Michael Douglas, that film is not set to arrive in theaters until July 6, 2018. We have six Marvel Studios between now and then. Doctor Strange has wrapped, Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is filming, and Thor: Ragnarok has just started filming. Then there is Black Panther, which no casting announcements have been made, and Avengers: Infinity War I (or whatever it will be called). That’s a whole bunch of real estate between then and now, and odds are we’d hear casting info on those other films before we’d hear anything about Ant-Man and Wasp.

Of course, Marvel Studios isn’t the only studio doing films with Marvel Characters. Fox has the X-Men characters and they have a movie that is supposedly being cast right now–New Mutants. This seems to be a better option than Ant-Man and Wasp.

Sharon Stone Emma FrostAs to what she would be playing in that film if that is indeed the film she is cast in? Well, just go with me on this. The New Mutants’ arch enemies were a rival team of young students from a place called The Massachusetts Academy. This was an evil school backed by the villainous Hellfire Club. It’s headmistress? Emma Frost.

Simon Kinberg has said that the next X-Men film will be set in the 1990s, and technically, New Mutants appears to be the next X-Men film. The casting rumor also state that Alexandra Shipp will be appearing as Storm in the film, which makes sense if it is only 10 years after her debut in X-Men: Apocalypse. And if it is set in 1993, that’s 30 years after X-Men: First Class, which puts Sharon Stone in the right ballpark to play an older January Jones.

Of course, Magneto said Emma Frost was dead in X-Men: Days of Future Past, but since keeping strict continuity isn’t this franchise’s strong suit. That could be as easily ignored as the teen Emma Frost of X-Men Origins: Wolverine was.

If this is the case, it will be a vast improvement. Well, that’s not saying much. A block of wood wearing a dress would have been an improvement over Jones. But still, Stone playing a headmistress of a school where the focus is one the kids might be considered a “wee’ part.

Anyway, that’s my theory. If you have one, feel free to leave it in the comments.
