James Bobin has confirmed that he will indeed be directing Sony’s Men In Black/ Jump Street franchise crossover MIB 23.
The news comes from Collider, who spoke with the director during the press tour for Bobin’s upcoming Alice In Wonderland sequel, Alice Through The Looking Glass.
Bobins’ name was first tied to the project back in March when it was reported that the studio was in discussions with him to direct the project. According to Collider, the film will be in front of cameras later this year.
Sony is understandably holding the plot details for this fairly close their chest. Reportedly, anyone who needs to read the script has to travel to the studio to do so. But since one franchise is about cops who go undercover in high schools and colleges and the other is about cops who police aliens who live in secret here on Earth, I think we have a good idea as to what the broad strokes of the film’s storyline will be.
Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum are set to return to their Jump Street roles as Jenko and Schmidt. However, Men In Black stars Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones are not reprising their roles from their films, with the studio hoping that this film will relaunch the Men In Black franchise. There has been no word as to who, if anyone yet, has been cast to fill their dark suits and sunglasses.
