Will Ferrell will be playing former president Ronald Reagan in the political satire Reagan. The screenplay for the project by Mike Rosolio had been making the studio rounds last year and was liked well enough within the industry that it made it onto the 2015 Black List.
According to the The Wrap –
Set at the start of the ex-president’s second term when he was suffering from Alzheimer’s, “Reagan” follows the commander-in-chief as he succumbs to dementia and is convinced by an ambitious intern that he’s actually an actor playing the president in a movie.
Ferrell is no stranger to political satire with his previous films The Campaign and Dick playing in that genre. During his star-making tenure on Saturday Night Live, he frequently played another US president, a befuddled version of George W Bush. It was an impersonation he revived for the Broadway show You’re Welcome America.
There is no director set for the project, but The Wrap is reporting that the film is a priority at Ferrell’s production shingle Gary Sanchez Productions.
