Quickly following up on yesterday’s release of a behind-the-scenes featurette for the upcoming Florence Foster Jenkins, Paramount has released a new trailer for the film starring Meryl Streep, Hugh Grant and Simon Helberg. It gives a good look at how director Stephen Frears is planning on turning the story of one of the allegedly worst singers in the world into a heartwarming story of triumph over adversity. We’ll see how well it plays out when the film gets released this summer, but with movies like Philomena, The Queen and High Fidelity on his resume, Frears has a good chance.
Here’s the studio’s official synopsis.
Set in 1940s New York, Florence Foster Jenkins is the true story of the legendary New York heiress and socialite (Meryl Streep) who obsessively pursued her dream of becoming a great singer. The voice she heard in her head was beautiful, but to everyone else it was hilariously awful. Her “husband” and manager, St. Clair Bayfield (Hugh Grant), an aristocratic English actor, was determined to protect his beloved Florence from the truth. But when Florence decided to give a public concert at Carnegie Hall, St. Clair knew he faced his greatest challenge.
Florence Foster Jones arrives in theaters August 12.
