Wasn’t Robert Downey Jr. supposed to stop doing Marvel films a while back? I guess someone forgot to tell him.
The Hollywood Reporter states the actor has signed on to reprise his role as Tony Stark in Spider-Man: Homecoming. His appearance in the film adds more connective tissue between the film and the Marvel Cinematic Universe and expands on the connection between the character that starts in Captain America: Civil War. No word as to the size of the role or if the suit of armor will be making an appearance.
Those of you who greet this news with excitement, hoping for a snarky gibe-off with Michael Keaton, I have bad news for you. Deadline states that the actor’s name has been removed from consideration for the villain role in the film. The search continues for the actor who will be playing Tom Holland’s antagonist in the film.
Spider-Man: Homecoming opens July 7, 2017
