The Hollywood Reporter has the scoop that actor Willem Dafoe will be joining the cast of the forthcoming Justice League films. Little is known about his role except that it will be a “good guy.”
Dafoe joins the rare fraternity of actors who have appeared on screen in films adapted from both Marvel and DC comic books. You may remember the actor played Norman Osborn, a.k.a. Green Goblin, in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy. He joins another member of the trilogy, J.K. Simmons, who was previously cast in Justice League as Commissioner Gordon. I guess Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst and James Franco should expect calls any day now.
Speculation has already begun as to who Dafoe will be playing. Guesses ranged from a member of Jack Kirby’s New Gods, who have a connection with the films’ villain Darkseid, to comic book JLA stalwart Phantom Stranger. Let me throw this out there: Guy Gardner. There will be a Green Lantern in the film and none have yet to be cast. The next GL film will focus on the Green Lantern Corps, of which Guy was a member of. And Dafoe could make the role a whole lot of fun.
Granted, I am only throwing this out there in the hopes I can say can make a corny Green Goblin/Green Lantern joke at some point in the future.
Justice League-Part One will arrive November 17, 2017 with Part Two following on June 14, 2019.
