During CinemaCon, the theater-owners convention where studios pimp out their upcoming product, Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara confirmed that the studio is developing a solo Batman film in which Ben Affleck will write, direct and star.
This is certainly not the most surprising announcement to ever come out of the show. Rumors of the project being in development by the studio have been circulating since at least last July. And just last month, Affleck himself confirmed that he had finished writing a screenplay for such a film.
“I’m also excited to know that we will be working with Ben Affleck on a stand-alone Batman movie,” Tsujihara stated while talking about how happy the studio was with the film Affleck first appeared as Batman in, Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The film has not been officially scheduled yet. But Warners has two dates already staked out for DC Extended Universe films – October 5, 2018 and November 1, 2019 – and either one could be the eventual berth that this Batman film lands in. Until then, we’ll be seeing Affleck’s Batman in August’s Suicide Squad and in the upcoming two-part Justice League films.
