We know that the upcoming Star Wars spin-off Rogue One is serving as a prequel in a way to the very first Star Wars film with it telling the story of the spies who managed to steal the Death Star plans from the Empire and get them to Princess Leia. But Rogue One will be getting its own prequels in the form of both a comic book miniseries and a new novel.
The comic book was announced by Star Wars comics publisher, and Lucasfilm Disney corporate sibling, Marvel Comics this weekend at Chicago’s C2E2 convention. The three-part miniseries will kick off in October, a few months before Rogue One‘s December 16 release. An additional one-shot will follow after the films’ release. No creative team for the book was announced.
Meanwhile, Star Wars novel publishers Del Rey took to Facebook to announce their own Rogue One prequel which will be hitting bookstores in October as well.

From the looks of it, it appears as if the publishing plan leading up to the release of Rogue One will be following the pattern used for last year’s The Force Awakens, where a comic book miniseries and a number of novels were published that were set chronologically between Return Of The Jedi and the new film. I suspect we will be seeing more books being announced over the next couple of months.
