Like a great magician, J. J. Abrams was keeping our attentions occupied with a new Star Wars movie he was busy making a possible Cloverfield sequel appear before our very eyes.
Abrams is famous for keeping his cards close to his vest when it comes to the movies he’s making, but it appears as if he has managed to hide the production of this long-hoped for sequel to the popular 2008 giant monster movie in plain sight. Originally, the film, which stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead and John Goodman, was announced as The Cellar and later had its name changed to Valencia. But with the release of its first trailer last night, a new name for the project has been revealed. And it appears to be one that will make Cloverfield fans very happy.
According to initial reports, while the film was still known under those different titles, the story was centered on lows a girl (Winstead) who, after losing consciousness in a car accident, wakes up in an underground bunker with a man (Goodman) who tells her that the outside world has perished in a nuclear attack. It looks as if that nuclear attack was just a feint to disguise the giant monster angle of the film.
10 Cloverfield Lane hits theaters March 11.
