Marvel has just given us a late Christmas present via EW – our first look at Benedict Cumberbatch in full costume as Doctor Strange.
According to the magazine, which hits stands Tuesday, this photo is the first time that the actor has actually worn the costume for Marvels’ Sorcerer Supreme. The film is still in production and had not yet gottento the scenes requiring the full outfit when the picture was taken. In the accompanying article, Cumberbatch reveals that he is very aware that he is under scrutiny from fans, and he takes that seriously.
I’m still in the infancy of learning all that. It was like, okay, I’ve got to keep throwing these poses, these spells, these rune-casting things, everything he does physically. I’m thinking, there’s going to be a huge amount of speculation and intrigue over the positioning of that finger as opposed to it being there, or there. And I’m still working on that. We haven’t played any of those scenes yet. I felt really self-conscious. But, then, by the end, it was great. It’s like anything, you just have to experiment.
Tuesday’s issue should also reveal more about the roles Rachel McAdams and Mads Mikkelsen are playing in the film, including, presumably, their character’s names.
On first blush, I have to say that I like the design, especially the layered use of fabrics. It is a nice change from the armored look of all the other Marvel cinematic superheroes.
Doctor Strange hits theaters on November 4, 2016.
