Let’s Take A Look At A DOCTOR STRANGE Set Picture

Although they are several weeks into production, Marvel Studios has still not released any official pictures from their upcoming supernatural superhero film Doctor Strange. That has left us to rely on grainy location set photos to see stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

This morning, Marvel Studios’ Co-President Louis D’Esposito tweeted out a picture of himself along with the film’s director Scott Derrickson and executive producer Stephen Broussard on the Doctor Strange set. It’s certainly not an “official” official promotional picture – Note the green screens in the background – but it still gives us a couple of items of note.

First off, notice that funky circular design on the wall on the left hand side of the picture? That is the Seal of Vishanti, a mystical protection sigil that Doctor Strange also has on his Greenwich Village townhouse/Sanctum Sanctorum in the form of a skylight. Also, on the table in front of the Seal, there looks to be an object that resembles the mystical object known to comics fans as the Eye of Agamotto. If that is indeed what it is, it should be interesting to learn how it got from Asgard, where we saw it in Odin’s treasure room in the first Thor film, down to Earth.

As for what set this is that they happen to be standing on, I am guessing that it is the Tibetan temple where the Ancient One, the mountaintop retreat where Strange and Mordo are both taught the ways of the mystic arts.

Unfortunately, D’Esposito stated that he could not tweet out a photo of star Cumberbatch in costume.

Doctor Strange hits theaters November 4, 2016.
