KINGSMAN’s Sofia Boutella In Talks For THE MUMMY

Mummy

Sofia Boutella is in talks to take the lead in Universal’s The Mummy, the film that they hope will kick off an interconnected series of franchises, similar to Marvel Studios’ cinematic superhero universe.

Boutella will be playing the titular monster, possibly opposite Tom Cruise, who is in talks for the male lead of the film. Other characters being developed for Universal’s Monsters Universe include Dracula, Frankenstein, the Invisible Man, the Bride of Frankenstein and vampire hunter Van Helsing.

Jon Spaihts has penned the script for the project which Alex Kurtzman will be directing.

Boutella is a great choice for the film, following her appearance as the blade-legged assassin in Kingsman: The Secret Service earlier this year. In that film she displayed a great physicality to her action sequences and also proved adapt to working with visual effects that removed part of her body, something I dare say will be employed in the upcoming film.

The Mummy is slated for a March 24, 2017 release.
