While we are not quite sure what kind of role he has in the upcoming Captain America: Civil War, Martin Freeman’s character for the film will be sticking around the Marvel Cinematic Universe for a while afterwards.
Speaking with EW, Marvel Studios honcho Kevin Feige confirmed that the actor will be making future appearances across their superhero franchise films.
There are a lot of amazing actors in this movie. Some of them play larger roles than others. And in some cases there are some you will meet ever so briefly in this film and then will be expanded upon in future films. [Martin] falls into that latter category.
Of course, Feige did stop short of saying when exactly Freeman would be popping up again. However, since Freeman himself has hinted that his character works for the American government in some capacity policing superheroes, it is a fair bet that he probably won’t be showing up the films that will most likely take place for the most part off-Earth. So that would leave Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 2 and Thor: Ragnarok out of the running. That still leaves us Doctor Strange, The Inhumans, Black Panther, Captain Marvel and the two-part The Avengers: Infinity War as possibilities. If I were a betting man, my money would be placed on Black Panther, Captain Marvel and Avengers. We’ll find out the answers as Marvel’s Phase Three films continue to roll out over the next few years.
