It has been nearly twenty years since her last directorial outing, but Barbara Streisand is may be sliding behind the cameras once again.

The Hollywood Reporter is stating that the singer/actress/director has been attached to a biopic about the Russian empress entitled simply Catherine The Great that is in the process of being put together to shop around Hollywood for funding.

The screenplay for the project is by Kristina Lauren Anderson, and topped last year’s Black List of the best unproduced scripts currently circulating in Hollywood and charts the rise to power of Sophia Augusta Fredericka as she takes charge of the Russian empire following the assassination of her husband, Peter III. Her rule, which lasted from 1762 to 1796, is credited with revitalizing the empire into an economic powerhouse.

Streisand’s three previous movies – Yentl (1983), Prince Of Tides (1991) and The Mirror Has Two Faces (1996) – all received critical acclaim as well as 14 Academy Award nominations between them.
