Filming is set to start on Warner Brothers’ Wonder Woman, one of the studio’s 2017 entries into their burgeoning DC Comics Cinematic Universe being built off of 2013’s Man Of Steel. Gal Gadot will be playing the titular heroic amazon, reprising her role which will debut in next year’s Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice. Joining her in the Patty Jenkins-directed film will be Chris Pine as long-time Wonder Woman ally Steve Trevor. Beyond that, there has not been much more solid information about the film or its story line. We know that Nicole Kidman may be in talks for a role. Additional rumors about the film include the script possibly spanning from World War One to the modern day and who the villain of the piece may be.
But some of that uncertainty is about to change, thanks to a photo posted (and then quickly deleted) on Instagram by actor Saïd Taghmaoui. In said picture, which we have for you below, we see Taghmaoui and Pine decked out in World War One-era clothing, confirming that at least part of the film will be set in that time period.
Also, by virtue of the fact that the GI Joe: The Rise Of Cobra actor is the one who posted this, we now know that Saïd Taghmaoui is also in the Wonder Woman cast in some form or another.
Of course, if the Steve Trevor character is introduced in during World War One, it doesn’t say much for his chances of appearing in the modern day portion of the film. Then again, this is a comic book adaption we’re talking about, so I suppose any sort of magic or technological trick could be found to make it happen.
Filming will commence in the UK before moving on to Italy. As you can see from the sign on the trailer in the background of the picture, Wonder Woman is currently filming under the title “Nightengale,” so as to throw off anyone snooping around the set. Presumably, once they get to Greece the production will be using some of the ancient Greek buildings and landmarks there in some capacity. As production continues be prepared for more information about the film to leak off from location.
Wonder Woman hits theaters on June 23, 2017.
