Aquaman is three years away and already has had two screenwriters, but it appears that it is getting another.
The Hollywood Reporter is saying that David Leslie Johnson has been hired to pen the 2018 DC Universe film. It is not known whether Johnson is penning a third script to join the ones already written by Will Beall and Kurt Johnstad for the film, or if he has been hired to merge the two previous scripts into a cohesive whole.
The good news for comic fans is that Johnson was a protege of Frank Darabont, working as an assistant to him on The Green Mile and The Shawshank Redemption and writing for him on The Walking Dead and Mob City. The bad news is that free from Darabont, Johnson has written such underwhelming fare as Orphan, Red Riding Hood, and Wrath of the Titans. He has also written the forthcoming Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist and Dungeons & Dragons.
Aquaman opens on July 28, 2018.
