While not a return to his glory days of the early part of last decade, M. Night Shyamalan’s most recent horror film The Visit did marginally better than the director’s output from the last ten years or so. Will the director be able to continue his return back to his formal greatness? We’ll find out if he can continue that return with his next film, the just announced Split.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, James McAvoy will star in the film which has a scheduled January 20, 2017. Also in the cast will be Anya Taylor Joy, Betty Buckley, Jessica Sula and Haley Lu Richardson.
As expected, there is not much more information than that about the film, outside of the fact that it will be a supernatural thriller. The Visit was made on a budget of just $5 million and grossed studio Blumhouse Productions $89 million worldwide. Blumhouse is producing Split as well, though it is not known if they are giving him a bigger check to pay for this new film.
