Back at the beginning of the month, it was strongly suggested that Ridley Scott’s next film would Prometheus 2, a follow up to his 2012 prequel to his own Alien. The director has now confirmed that the sequel is indeed the next item on his schedule.
During an interview with Empire for his upcoming feature The Martian, which stars Matt Damon who was also present, Scott stated that he has already begun work on the film.
[The Martian filmmakers] faced another challenge when the film’s release date was brought forward. But according to [Matt] Damon, the typically fast-working Scott didn’t worry. “Ridley was done with the movie about two weeks after we shot!” he smiles. “I was already on to my next movie!” adds Scott. “I was starting to look for locations for my next movie, which is Prometheus 2.”
There was no confirmation of this month’s earlier report that Prometheus 2 would start shooting in January, but if Scott is already at work, then it is very likely that it could be. Scott has been developing Prometheus 2 for awhile with writers Jack Paglen and Michael Green working on the screenplay.
Prometheus stars Noomi Repace and Michael Fassbender are set to return as they continue to follow clues about the mysterious alien engineers who seeded intelligent life on Earth but also created the deadly alien xenomorphs.
Prometheus 2 is expected in 2017.
