Cecily Strong Will Be Jessica Chastain’s PLUS ONE

Cecily-Strong

Saturday Night Live cast member Cecily Strong has made a few small film appearances since she joined the cast of the legendary late night sketch series back in 2012, but none have really given her a chance to let her comedic chops go all out. Perhaps that will be changing soon as Strong will be joining Jessica Chastain for Plus One, a romantic comedy in development at the Weinstein Company.

According to the Tracking Board

Strong will play Summer, a loud, sexually-oversharing wild card who, as the only single friend Rachel (Chastain) has left, becomes her wing-woman by default.

The Tracking Board reports that Amy Schumer had been under consideration for the role. While I can see this role playing to the strengths of both comics, I would guess that Schumer might be looking to continue generating her own material in the wake of the success of this summer’s Trainwreck. Plus One‘s screenplay is by newcomer April Prosser.

Strong has stood out on Saturday Night Live amongst a cast that features a number of funny ladies thanks to such characters as The Girl You Wish You Hadn’t Started a Conversation With at a Party and one half of a duo of ditzy former porn stars turned spokes-models and her celebrity impressions of Anjelica Huston, Ariana Grande, Sofia Vergara, Jill Kelley, Khloe Kardashian, Megyn Kelly, Alanis Morissette, Gloria Estefan, Rachel Maddow and more.

With Strong cast the next step is for the production to find a director. No production start or release date for Plus One has been set.
