Blue Steel is back as the first teaser trailer for Zoolander II, writer/director/star Ben Stiller’s follow-up to his 2001 male model comedy, has been released.
Although the film wrapped production a couple of weeks ago, there is no actual footage in the trailer, but it does reacquaint everyone with Stiller’s titular dimbulb model Derek Zoolander.
As to the prospect of a sequel to one of Stiller’s funniest films almost a decade-and-a-half later, I remain cautiously optimistic. I enjoyed the first film and would like the chance to peek on Derek Zoolander’s life and see where he is now, but I felt that way about Will Ferrel’s Anchorman and wound up getting a bit burned with that comedy’s more recent follow up. Still, as the just released on Netflix miniseries Wet Hot American Summer: First Day Of Camp shows you can do a comedy several years after the release of the original film and still have it be an equal to the first.
We’ll find out when Zoolander II opens in theaters on February 12th, 2016.
