The still untitled fifth film in the Bourne franchise has added Tommy Lee Jones to its cast. The Oscar-winning actor will be taking on the role of a senior CIA official who will very likely come into conflict with Matt Damon’s amnesiac spy Jason Bourne.
In addition to Damon, Jones will be joining Alicia Vikander and Julia Stiles when filming starts later this summer under the direction of Paul Greengrass. Viggo Mortensen has been reported as possibly being in the cast as well, though his participation has not been officially confirmed.
Given that Lee’s role sounds as if it might occupy a similar story purpose as did Edward Norton, Chris Cooper, Brian Cox and David Strathairn’s role in previous entries in the Bourne franchise than while Variety offers no information about the character it seems safe to assume that he’ll probably not be on the best of terms with Bourne.
The fifth Bourne film is currently scheduled to hit theaters a year and a day from now on July 29, 2016.
