Is Channing Tatum Dropping Out Of GAMBIT?

In a surprise story tonight, The Wrap is reporting that Channing Tatum may be leaving 20th Century Fox’s X-Men franchise spinoff Gambit.

According to their sources, The Wrap is stating that the actor’s deal with the studio “is in jeopardy of falling apart and he is planning to exit the comic book project.”

One individual close to the project told TheWrap that Tatum’s reps are still in active discussions with the studio but acknowledged that “something is up.

This news comes hot on the heels of yesterday’s announcement that the film would be going in front of the cameras this coming October. Recently, the actor had been screentesting with a number of actresses for the female lead in the film, with Blue Is The Warmest Color and SPECTRE‘s Lea Seydoux reportedly in the mix.

The Wrap also reports that Channing is itching to take a shot at directing and that may be factoring into his current mindset.

If Channing and his producing partner Reid Carolin do walk, it could put the Rupert Wyatt-directed project in danger as it was greenlit by the studio primarily based on the actor’s involvement. The film is currently scheduled for an October 7, 2016 release.
