Currently in production, Marvel Studios’ Captain America: Civil War has shaped up to be a veritable who’s who of characters from the eleven comic book adaptions that precede it. And while we wait for Marvel and Sony to make up their minds as to which actor will be chosen to play Spider-Man, here’s a bit of possible casting news to mull over. Mark Ruffalo may be joining the cast, once again playing scientist Bruce Banner and his alter ego The Incredible Hulk.
Speaking with HitFix while out stumping for his new indie drama Infinitely Polar Bear, Ruffalo stated that he heard he will be in the film from a source close to the production – Robert Downey Jr.
“If Robert Downey, Jr. says I’m in ‘Captain America,’ I’m in ‘Captain America’ dammit,” Ruffalo says laughing. “And I will wait for the day that my call sheet shows up at my doorstep or my script. At this point, I’m told that I’m in it by Robert, which I’ll take as biblical, but I just haven’t heard or seen from production yet.”
Previously, there has been some hints from the actor that he may be involved in Civil War, but this is the first time he has been so direct in addressing the topic, even with the caveat he throws in at the end. Is he telling the truth? Is he pulling our leg? For that matter, is Downey pulling Ruffalo’s leg? We’ll find out sometime between now and next May when Captain America: Civil War hits theaters.
