In what is looking like a pretty funny and savvy bit of casting, the muscular Chris Hemsworth has been cast as the receptionist is Kevin Feig’s female-led Ghostbusters remake. The character in original was played by the versatile comic actress Annie Potts and was named Janine Melman. So does this make Hemsworth’s character Eugene Melman?

Even though Hemsworth is best known for his ongoing role as the God of Thunder, Thor, in Marvel Studios’ superhero films, he will be turning in a comedic supporting in the upcoming Vacation franchise reboot later this year. With Hemsworth’s casting I think I see some fun comdic possibilities of playing with some stereotypes about female supporting roles like this in movies. Could be fun.
Feig’s new version of the 1984 comedy classic is set to star Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones in the titular role of the paranormal exterminators who are ready to believe you about your ghost problems. Production is scheduled to start later this summer.
