In the lead up to this weekend’s release of The Avengers: Age Of Ultron, there was some criticism that in terms of available toys based on the film, the lead female superhero characters, specifically Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow, were underrepresented in comparison to their male counterparts. So, perhaps having that issue being discussed in the geek zeitgeist this week was probably a bad time for the studio to have Johansson guest-hosting Saturday Night Live. And of course the sketch show seized on that and used it as the basis for a parody film trailer for a Black Widow film that also skewers Hollywood’s propensity to make films marketed at women in just one specific genre. Not every joke lands, but the overall premise is good enough to give this three minutes of your time.
