A number of previous attempts to get a big screen adaptation of the 1970s TV series The Six Million Dollar Man have always fallen apart. The man tasked with rebuilding this latest attempt – See what I did there? – is screenwriter Damián Szifron.
Szifron, who earned a Best Foreign Language Film Oscar for writing and directing this past year’s Wild Tales, has been picked to take a run at bringing the story – As outlined in the show’s opening titles below – of a test pilot whose egregious injuries are repaired with bionic parts allowing him to become a top spy for the government. The original series ran from 1974 to 1978 and starred Lee Majors.
This new version, of course, will reflect the impact of inflation and will be titled The Six Billion Dollar Man.
Mark Wahlberg is attached to star as the titular Steve Austin as well as produce. Peter Berg is signed to direct.
