Ryan Gosling is in negotiations to join Harrison Ford in the cast of the upcoming Blade Runner 2. There’s no word as to the character that Gosling will be playing outside of it being a lead role alongside Ford, who will be reprising his role of futuristic replicant hunter Rick Deckard (who, spoiler for a three decades old movie, may be a replicant himself). Blade Runner director Ridley Scott is executive producing the project, overseeing Prisoners director Denis Villeneuve who will be calling the shots behind the camera. Original Blade Runner co-screenwriter Hampton Fancher is working on the script for the new film with writer Michael Green, developing an idea conceived by Fancher and Scott.
Landing this role is the latest step by Gosling is in his breakout from indie dramas like Drive to big studio fare. In the upcoming months he will be seen in Shane Black’s The Nice Guys with Russell Crowe and in Terrence Malick’s Weightless. He is also set to be in Guillermo del Toro’s The Haunted Mansion and is being sought to star opposite Emma Stone in director Damien Chazelle’s La La Land for Lionsgate.
Production is set to start in summer 2016.
