London, Lee And Suplee Returning For MALLRATS 2

Three more are heading back to the mall. Over the last couple of days, Kevin Smith has announced on his Facebook page that Jeremy London, Jason Lee and Ethan Suplee will be returning for Mallrats 2, the director’s planned sequel to his 1995 comedy. The three will be joining the previously announced Jason Mewes, Michael Rooker, Shannen Doherty, Stan Lee and Smith himself.

London and Lee, of course, were the cornerstone of the comedy as TJ and Quint, two life-long friends hanging out at the local mall trying to figure out their relationship problems. Suplee played an acquaintance who was determined to see thes ail boat in one of those “Magic Eye” pictures that seemed to be on sale

Lee and Suplee’s return were pretty much no-brainers. They have worked with Smith multiple times and are reportedly on good terms with the director. But I have to admit that I am a bit surprised that London is returning for the sequel. There have been numerous stories in circulation over the years that both London and his Mallrats love interest Claire Forlani did not have a good time on the shoot and have gone on to be part of the small number of actors not to come back for a subsequent Smith film. If Smith and London can patch up their reported differences, is it possible that Smith and Forlani can meet a similar detente?

Smith notes that he still has four actors to secure for the project. In addition to Forlani, my thought is that he is probably referring to the other major Mallrats cast members – Joey Lauren Adams, Renee Humphrey and Sven-Ole Thorsen – as the other possible returnees. We’ll see.
