SUPER TROOPERS 2 Has A Distributor But Needs Your Help

SuperTroopers2

The guys from Broken Lizard need a little help in funding the shenanigans they have planned for their anticipated Super Troopers 2 and are turning to their fan base for help.

Although the comedy group has distribution through Warner Brothers, they need to raise at least $2 million to fund the film itself and have set up an IndieGoGo page for fans to contribute to the budget. And in return, contributors will get perks that range from copies of the screenplay, tickets to the film and t-shirts, all the way to producer credits and a squad car used in the film. Click on over to the campaign page for more details.

That the group is going this route is not that surprising. They have spent several years working on different drafts of the screenplay for the film while attempting to clear up a “legal thing” and while that was seemingly resolved in 2013. Last fall Broken Lizard member Steve Lemme even stated that crowdfunding might be the way they go to get it made.

As of the time I hit publish on this, the campaign has managed to pull a bit over $400,000 in just four hours. Not quite the speed at which the Veronica Mars film, also distributed by Warner Brothers, got funded, but dare say that with a 3-day window, the film has a strong chance of hitting its mark.

It is hard to believe that it has been five years since the group has last been on the big screen together in 2010’s The Slammin’ Salmon. Over that time they have doe a standup tour and worked with each others on a number of solo projects while developing a number of things for the group to do. Just yesterday, TBS passed on a pilot for a sitcom featuring four of the five members of the group.
