John Oliver Inadvertantly Reveals A Bit Of STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Set

JJ Abrams’ sense of humor and his desire to keep things about the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens secret came into a bit of a conflict last night on HBO’s Last Week Tonight With John Oliver.

On the weekly satirical news show, Oliver did a piece about a new bit of technology designed to help salmon return upstream to their spawning ground when their way is blocked by something man-made like a hydroelectric damn – a salmon cannon. He than shows off his own, homemade cannon by launching fish at former colleagues, other late night show hosts, NBA stars, Tom Hanks and more.

Ultimately, one of his targets turns out to be JJ Abrams on the set of The Force Awakens – interrupted while giving R2-D2 some direction. A funny moment, but one which does reveal our first look at a non-Millennium Falcon interior set for the film. Given that across the Star Wars saga we’ve always seen the interiors of the good guy’s ships as white and gleaming while the villains get around the galaxy in ships with a far more subdued color scheme, the black walls and floor suggests that this is probably in a hip that belongs to the latter group. We can’t say for certain that R2 will be appearing in said location. It could have been just a convenient backdrop for Abrams to shoot the bit.

Here is the whole bit which is quite funny in itself, especially if you enjoy seeing famous people hit in the face with fish. (And who doesn’t?)

Abrams and R2’s appearance at the 3:31 and 4:02 marks.
