Abrams Unveils STAR WARS: EPISODE VII Fighter Craft

In the midst of a new promotional video for the Star Wars: Force For Change charity initiative, Episode VII director J J Abrams has unveiled a new fighter craft that we will be seeing in the highly anticipated sequel.

I know that a number of sites are labeling the fighter an X-Wing, but while it shares the same basic configuration of the classic craft from the original Star Wars trilogy, I wouldn’t label it as one. It could be a next generation fighter in the same family of ships, but given its rather battered appearance, I would be more inclined to think it was a predecessor of the X-Wing, similar to the Z95 Headhunter.

Either way, though, it is always exciting to see more glimpses from the set of the film and Abrams commitment to using physical props and sets over CG creations for the film.

It’s an X-Wing, based on the original McQuarrie concept art. Confirmed by the Star Wars twitter account.

Some of the early leaked photos showed this ship in closer detail, and you can see the round engine nacelle is actually 2 D-shaped ones on top of each other.
