It’s not often that a film gets an anniversary re-release, let alone two both in the same year, let alone both a week apart. Yet, that’s exactly what’s going to happen later on this year.
Entertainment Weekly states that Ghostbusters, which was originally released 30 years ago this week, will be re-released into theaters on August 29th for its anniversary. The film will be a remastered and restored version and will be shown in 700 theaters. If you want to see it, make plans for that opening weekend, because I’d imagine it will be long gone by the time the anniversary Blu-Ray release of the film and its sequel, Ghostbusters II (itself celebrating its 25th anniversary), hits retailers on September 16th.
A week after the Ghostbusters re-release hits, Forrest Gump will be re-released to theaters for its 20th anniversary. Exhibitor Relations has little information on the re-release, other than it will hit theaters on September 5th and be presented in the IMAX format.
