Some earnings calls from successful corporations are boring enterprises, filled with figures and numbers. Not so this morning’s call from Disney, which gave us enough scoop for two posts.
During the call, Disney CEO Bob Iger announced that filming for the first film of the third trilogy, Star Wars VII, will begin in May of this year in London’s Pinewood Studios, home to many other Star Wars films. He also announced that the trilogy will be set 30 after Star Wars VI: Return of the Jedi, which is darned convenient because that’s just about the amount of years Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford have aged since that last installment.
Outside of a glib announcement that R2-D2 will be coming back, no other cast was announced. But with the start of shooting a mere two months away, expect a flurry of casting announcements in the near future.
