We started off the day with a rumor that Johnny Depp was under consideration from Marvel Studios to take the lead in their in development adaptation of the comic book character Dr. Strange and now we get to debunk that rumor as the day is ending.
After the report surfaced this morning, a couple of outlets got to work in contacting their various sources to see if their was any validity to the idea that Marvel was actively looking for Depp to play the role. Deadline is reporting that the rumor is really old news, that “Depp was approached eons ago, and it never went anywhere.”
Meanwhile, the Hollywood Reporter’s Borys Kit tweeted that Marvel is overhauling the srceenplay that they currently have. Presumably, casting will still be a ways away.
Doc Strange now: They don't have a script and are looking for writers to completely start over.
